Overview:
Air India Flight 171, a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner (registration VT-ANB), was flying from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick. Just 36 seconds after takeoff, it lost altitude and crashed into the B.J. Medical College hostel area in Ahmedabad, causing massive destruction.
Casualties:
- Total onboard: 242 (230 passengers, 12 crew)
- Onboard fatalities: 241
- Ground fatalities: 39+ (mostly students in hostel)
- Only 1 survivor: Vishwash Kumar (seat 11A)
Response & Rescue:
Emergency response included:
- NDRF, Fire Brigade, CRPF, and police
